Breaking for Bobcats

Breaking for Bobcats

Last weekend began with me almost hitting a bobcat. He darted out from the sagebrush where I had no chance of seeing him but luckily he made it okay. That’s definitely the most exotic animal I’ve ever had the pleasure of skidding out to avoid.

One of the things I love most about the desert is how the wildlife is still abundant. I watched a roadrunner dart through the wash from my living room. Then today this rattlesnake was sunning across the road blocking our way. My least favorite wildlife of the weekend was definitely the large spider building a dense web in my pile of clean underwear. I really don’t want to think about what he was hoping to catch.

We did some thrift store shopping for our upcoming Gold Rush themed party and found this gem:

Cowboy Vest

Which immediately inspired this ridiculous photo shoot:

Wild West

AndreThis should tell you just how slowly the days pass in the desert. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Teeth Cleaning

Most houses in the desert have some bones somewhere and we’re no exception. These cow skulls can get really dirty! I guess I missed my true calling as a Vet Dentist.

Decorating a Joshua Tree proved problematic….do you have any idea how sharp their points are? I read a crazy Karen Russell story in The New Yorker about a woman who’s pricked by a joshua tree on a hike with her husband. Afterwords, she convinces him to move to Joshua Tree and she plants herself in the kitchen with her hands pointed up to the sky. This is exactly what happened after I hurt myself while decorating this tree. But with swearing. Lots of swearing.
